Now That’s Interesting
Breathe deep my feral friends.
I don’t normally enjoy posts that are simply regurgitating some form of news or some blue post, but right now, I think it’s needed. I’ve been very VERY excited for the new druid artwork and, though I acknowledge the few shortcomings, I think Blizzard is on the right track.
When the associations for the feral forms were posted I was very dissapointed. I had set my heart on a brown/brown combination, instead the best I could hope for is brown/red, or yellow/brown, and, to my eyes, yellow/brown accompanies a fur color too light for my tastes.
I was now among the legion of QQers that didn’t like what they were given and waah waah waah. Wasn’t I a voice against such nonsense? Yes, I was, and still am!
So, after some initial dissapointment, I’m twelve kinds of excited all over again. I can’t wait for these forms to get in-game, and I can’t wait to see what Blizzard has in store for ferals, and all druids, next.
What? Next, you ask?
Why, yes little cub, next.
I think it’s important to see the new forms as what they are: a range of new models and skins that you can choose from in some way. Let’s not forget that Druids have been requesting new or re-worked forms for a very long time, and now they are almost here.
Rather than potentially delaying their release by working on new or updated functions for the barbershop, we’ve instead got a simple way of choosing which of the new models you want. This seems to me to be a first step, much like the appearance of the barbershop with the initial selection of new hairstyles was. Now that the first step is about to be made for new forms, who knows what we might do in the future to allow Druids to choose from these models in a way other than how we currently intend to implement them.
Seems more important, at least in my eyes, that the new forms are no longer in the “new forms is something we would like to do sometime” status, and have now actually been seen by the community and are much closer to actually being in-game than ever before.
Personally, even though my Druid isn’t feral, I’m still quite pleased new models are coming.
It’s not the end of the world, the sky isn’t falling, and it’s thoroughly possible that something will be implemented to remove the form links.
In a nut-shell (not the one dangling off our Night Elven Bear friends), the fur/hair color link was the easiest way for Blizzard to get these forms into the game the fastest and still allow us with some level of customization.
More is coming.
I’m thrilled.
Also, here’s a preview of the project I’m working on. I don’t care of MMO-Champion has one up already. Mine will be much more aesthetically pleasing.
I may even make wallpapers if you ask nicely.
